9 killed, more than 19 injured in fire at UP’s Hapur chemical plant; PM Modi expresses his grief

Hapur: Nine people died and 19 others were injured in a fire at a chemical plant in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. After getting information, police and firefighters rushed to the scene to bring the flame under control. Earlier, police said more than 15 workers were injured in the blast which occurred at the factory located in Dholana area of ​​the district. Reports also suggest that some workers may be trapped inside the plant.

“A total of 15 injured, 8 dead in the explosion which took place in an electronic equipment manufacturing unit in Hapur. Injured being treated. We are probing the matter. Action will be taken against those responsible,” said Hapur IG Praveen Kumar.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire was started by an explosion in the plant’s boiler, which is located in the Dhaulana industrial area.

Anguished over the deaths of the workers in the fire, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, his office said in a tweet in Hindi.

“The Chief Minister has ordered District Administration Officers to go to the scene and supervise the rescue and relief measures and render all possible assistance to the victims and their families,” tweeted the CM office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives in a boiler explosion at a chemical plant in Hapur, UP today (9 dead, 19 injured).

He added, “The state government is actively involved in treating the injured and providing any assistance they can.”
