Chemical Technologies opens flagship plant in Fort Pierce

Fort Pierce – Thursday, August 25, 2022: Fort Pierce will house Chemical Technologies Holding Corporation’s flagship facility, ChemTech. It is a one-of-a-kind wood processing facility established to showcase the company’s revolutionary TechWood product.

Production at the Techwood plant will begin before the end of this month. This first phase, 8,000 square feet on Commercial Circle, will employ approximately eight people and has been qualified and third-party certified to produce and apply ChemTech’s protective and environmentally friendly treatments to lumber. , plywood and engineered wood. Expansion planning is underway for an additional 2,000 square feet of additional operations and employment.

“Using patented and proven chemistry, decades of expertise and cutting-edge technology, ChemTech has created an innovative treatment process that stabilizes and protects wood products against mold, rot, termites and fire”, said Tom Comery, president of ChemTech. “Our Fort Pierce plant was created to model the TechWood application process for building component manufacturers, sawmills and lumber dealers as we build a network of applicators.”

“TechWood is innovative, non-hazardous and offers ten times the capacity of competitive growers,” Comery said. The patent-pending treatment produces a semi-permeable barrier that allows the wood to breathe while blocking durable protections, he said.

“Construction activity is booming in St. Lucie County, so it makes perfect sense to locate the TechWood facility here,” said St. Lucie County Commission Chairman Sean Mitchell. “We need pioneering American companies like ChemTech as we grapple with continued supply chain disruptions and unprecedented demand for housing.”

TechWood sequesters 73% of formaldehyde and other volatile organic compound emissions, which improves indoor air quality, is 30% lighter than pressure-treated wood, offers a 50% reduction in the absorption of moisture and improves dimensional stability by 69%, Comery said.

“The installation of ChemTech’s flagship facility here in St. Lucie County creates great synergy due to the high demand for residential building materials in our region and as we expand the advanced manufacturing capabilities of our region,” said Pete Tesch, chairman of the St. Lucie County Economic Development Council (EDC). “This has been an exciting project for EDC and our county.”
