px Group to operate a chemical recycling plant in the UK

UK-based px Group, an operator of energy infrastructure sites in the UK and Europe, said it was awarded a 10-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract by ReNew ELP at the plant company’s commercial-scale chemical plastic recycling.

ReNew, a subsidiary of Mura Technology Ltd. based in London, built its factory in Teesside, England. The facility will use the HydroPRS technology platform to chemically recycle end-of-life plastic. This process uses “supercritical water to break down post-consumer plastics into a range of valuable liquid hydrocarbon products, including naphtha, gas oils and heavy wax residue,” according to ReNew.

Teesside plant will be ‘capable of handling all plastics [scrap] types, including hard-to-recycle materials such as composite films,” says ReNew.

“Winning this long-term contract at a ground-breaking factory with state-of-the-art technology, which is also ‘close to home’ for px Group, is great news,” said Geoff Holmes, CEO of px Group. “We are proud to be involved in this exciting project.”

At the site, px Group and ReNew will initially treat more than 20,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year, during the first phase of operations. The site has planning permission for additional processing lines, which would increase its processing capacity to more than 80,000 metric jets per year, the two companies say.

The contract is expected to start before the end of this year, in line with the completion of the construction phase of the project at the Teesside site.

Neil Chapman, Commercial Director at px Group, will lead the project on behalf of that company and work with the Renew ELP management team at the plant.

Holmes adds: “We have 30 years of practical experience in developing cleaner energy projects and reducing emissions. Thus, with this contract, we will continue to provide low-carbon solutions necessary for a sustainable economy and reinforce our commitment to the energy transition.

“We are thrilled to partner with ReNew and look forward to beginning work on this world-class project,” Chapman said.

Notes Richard Daley, Managing Director of ReNew, “px Group has first-class experience running some of the UK’s most important energy and industrial sites, with an exemplary safety record. We look forward to working with px Group and the team on site as we demonstrate the business performance of HydroPRS and expand our technology offering worldwide.
